{"id":21253,"date":"2019-09-11T08:56:01","date_gmt":"2019-09-11T06:56:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bluforce.fitt.com\/fitt-bluforce-rj-per-il-cantiere-t-o-c-di-hera-spa\/"},"modified":"2021-05-11T12:44:29","modified_gmt":"2021-05-11T10:44:29","slug":"fitt-bluforce-rj-for-the-hdd-construction-site-of-hera","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bluforce.fitt.com\/en\/fitt-bluforce-rj-for-the-hdd-construction-site-of-hera\/","title":{"rendered":"FITT Bluforce RJ for the HDD construction site of Hera"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row css_animation=&#8221;&#8221; row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; use_row_as_full_screen_section=&#8221;no&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; angled_section=&#8221;no&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; background_image_as_pattern=&#8221;without_pattern&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text]The water main supply network of Bagnacavallo, a town in the province of Ravenna with 17,000 inhabitants, was no longer able to meet the needs of the area due to a significant growth in the population and production activities.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=&#8221;&#8221; row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; use_row_as_full_screen_section=&#8221;no&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; angled_section=&#8221;no&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; background_image_as_pattern=&#8221;without_pattern&#8221;][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;25px&#8221;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;19071&#8243; img_size=&#8221;medium&#8221; qode_css_animation=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;30px&#8221;][vc_column_text]<strong>Laid in the \u201860s<\/strong>, the pipes had a rather narrow diameter (between 63 and 110 mm): it was no longer possible to ensure the required water supply and some places had low<br \/>\nwater pressure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The only course of action was to rebuild the network<\/strong>, but the building-site zone was situated <strong>along an extremely busy road<\/strong> <strong>with numerous intersections<\/strong>, such as crossroads and very deep rainwater sewer-system canals.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=&#8221;&#8221; row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; use_row_as_full_screen_section=&#8221;no&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; angled_section=&#8221;no&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; background_image_as_pattern=&#8221;without_pattern&#8221;][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;15px&#8221;][vc_column_text]The other issue, which was no less pressing, stemmed from <strong>the need to pre-assemble many bars of pipe<\/strong> (up to 250 metres) <strong>along the cycle path<\/strong>: this would have led to problems in managing the worksite spaces as well as the temporary closure of high-traffic road sections.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is why <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gruppohera.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Hera<\/strong> <\/a> &#8211; a leading Italian multi-utility company and Integrated Water Service operator for the province of Ravenna &#8211; <strong>decided to use horizontal directional drilling with FITT Bluforce RJ for the job<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Horizontal directional drilling<\/strong> (<strong>HDD<\/strong>) <strong>is trenchless technology which allows pipelines to be laid without having to carry out surface excavation;<\/strong> this significantly reduces the inconvenience caused by a traditional worksite, and in situations like that of Bagnacavallo it is the only way to work around an otherwise insurmountable obstacle. The no-dig solution chosen by Hera &#8211; which limited the amount of excavation work along the cycle path &#8211; meant that vehicles could drive along the road as usual and that there would be normal access to the local businesses throughout the reconstruction activities.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=&#8221;&#8221; row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; use_row_as_full_screen_section=&#8221;no&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; angled_section=&#8221;no&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; background_image_as_pattern=&#8221;without_pattern&#8221;][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;15px&#8221;][vc_column_text]For this HDD installation Hera chose FITT Bluforce RJ, the polymer alloy pipe with an integrated restrained-joint system.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bluforce.fitt.com\/en\/fitt-bluforce-rj-restraint-joint-technology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>FITT Bluforce RJ<\/strong><\/a> is the first pipe in Europe made from thermoplastic materials with <strong>an integrated immovable mechanical sealing system<\/strong>. The double-chamber seal hot-inserted in advance ensures ease of joining and a fully tight hydraulic and mechanical seal, which make FITT Bluforce RJ ideal for trenchless applications. <strong>FITT Bluforce RJ is lightweight, easy to handle<\/strong> even in enclosed spaces and does not require drawn-out costly welding operations which slow down work on the site.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;40px&#8221;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;19065&#8243; img_size=&#8221;medium&#8221; qode_css_animation=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=&#8221;&#8221; row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; use_row_as_full_screen_section=&#8221;no&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; angled_section=&#8221;no&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; background_image_as_pattern=&#8221;without_pattern&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text]The entire <strong>1,200 meters of this worksite<\/strong> was laid in a mere <strong>6 days with 6 HDD pull<\/strong>. Each pull varied between 180 and 265 metres, with a pulling force ranging between 4.5 and 5.5 tonnes.
