17 Apr FITT Bluforce RJ for Chorus Life, the first sustainable architecture city model
Bergamo is the birthplace of Chorus Life, a city idea aimed at offering a model of urban regeneration capable of promoting social well-being, economic profitability, sustainable architecture and technologies at the service of the smart city.
The design of the underground utilities for this major project highlighted the need to install a grey water distribution pipe underneath an existing building. The choice of Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) proved to be the only viable technical option for laying a pipeline with a useful internal diameter of more than 355 mm and a total length of 100 linear metres.
The project was further complicated by the location of the firing pit within the site area, close to an access that could not be closed, resulting in the need to construct a small armoured trench, approximately 3 metres deep and only 8 metres long. In addition, the reduced manoeuvring space further complicated the operating context.
Faced with all these critical issues, Cemir, the company in charge of the HDD installation activities, recommended to the Site Management the use of the FITT Bluforce RJ DN 400 PN 16 pipe: the innovative polymer alloy pipe produced by FITT with integrated hot formed tensile resistant socket-based jointing system.
PVC-A is a material with an excellent surface hardness of 65 Shore D which can withstand the toughest laying conditions. It’s also easy to assemble and guarantees safety, durability and certified environmental impact (-19% CO2e emissions, raw material according to ISO 1452-2-2019 standard).
In fact, the FITT Bluforce RJ system is the first PVC-A system with EPD® certified environmental product declaration in Europe, in accordance with ISO 14025 and EN 15804:2012+A2:2019 standards.
The mechanical pre-insertion of the gasket during the hot formation of the socket prevents the accidental displacement of the same, ensures ease of installation and an optimum long-term hydraulic seal.
FITT Bluforce RJ‘s unique non-slip tensile resistant jointing system allowed the rods to be assembled during the RIG laying activities. In view of the size of the pipeline, FITT also supplied the company with the installation head required to complete the laying of the pipeline. The low weight, compared to all other materials, coupled with the jointing technology, allowed Cemir’s technicians to assemble and lay 100 metres of DN 400 pipeline inside the narrow trench in less than 5 hours, without ever affecting site access usability, as requested by the customer.
