Water networks of the future: technologies, sustainability and case studies at the Cagliari Conference

Last 28th November, the conference “Sustainability, low environmental impact materials and technologies for water network management” was held in Cagliari.

The technical meeting, promoted by Associazione Idrotecnica Italiana and organised in collaboration with Abbanoa S.p.A., Servizi a Rete and FITT, addressed the theme of sustainable innovation in the management of water infrastructure.

The event, accredited with 3 professional training credits (CFP) for engineers, was attended by water service operators, industry experts, institutional representatives and specialised technicians.

Key topics of the meeting

The conference program offered a structured journey through institutional speeches, scientific contributions and operational testimonies.

Main topics included:

  • FITT’s 2030 sustainability strategy “The Responsible Flow”, with a presentation of future actions and objectives;
  • LCA methodology and EPD certification as objective criteria for assessing the environmental impact of products;
  • Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), presented as an installation technology designed to reduce construction site impacts;
  • Thermoplastic pipes made of PVC-A (PVC-HI) polymer alloy, an advanced technological solution for more resilient and efficient water networks.

Case studies of the FITT Bluforce system

The conference was also an opportunity to illustrate some of the most significant case studies featuring the FITT Bluforce system in PVC-A (PVC-HI):

  • The Hera Group’s choice for strengthening the water network in Bagnacavallo (RA), thanks to HDD technology;
  • The environmental protection and wastewater management improvement project in Castelsardo (SS), carried out by Abbanoa S.p.A.;
  • CIIP S.p.A.’s testimony on the reliability and effectiveness of PVC-A (PVC-HI) in tackling complex installation contexts such as the Valdaso valley (FM).

The event confirmed how sustainability, innovative materials and advanced installation technologies can make a decisive contribution to building the water networks of the future: resilient, efficient and with a reduced environmental footprint.
